A HARD-WORKING veterinary nurse is taking on a new challenge by studying for the skills she needs to help animals in emergency situations.

Ellie Tomlinson, who works at Minster Veterinary Practice, will study for a prestigious qualification in critical care so she can look after seriously ill pets.

Ellie, who will also learn about anaesthetics during the course, is to carry on working at the practice throughout her studies.

Her colleagues Alice Jones, Hannah Allanson and Katie Tallett have also completed further qualifications.

Hannah specialises in caring for exotic animals while Katie completed a certificate in wound management and Alice completed a degree focusing her dissertation on animals in intensive care.

Kate Harrington, clinical nurse manager at Minster Vets, said: “It’s excellent that our nurses are keen to develop their own professional skills, as it demonstrates the dedication and passion they have for their jobs, which is integral as a team member of Minster Vets.

“Not only will the four be developing their own careers, but they will also help expand the expert service and treatment we are able to provide to our clients.

“We encourage all staff to further their abilities and with the support from VetPartners we have been able to offer these opportunities to our nurses."
