YORK Minster enjoyed a record breaking 13 per cent increase in visitor numbers last year - rising by 10 places to 51st in a national poll of leading visitor attractions.
The Dean of York, the Very Reverend Vivienne Faull, said it was ‘very exciting’ to learn that the cathedral was one of the Association of Leading Visitor Attractions’ (ALVA) ‘best performers’ in 2017 with 692,000 visitors. She said the Minster had 422,000 visitors in 2012. “It became clear we had to up our game and take a more active role in York’s thriving tourism economy.”
