HOLOCAUST Memorial Day will be marked with a commemorative event at Clifford’s Tower in York between 6.30pm and 7.30pm on Thursday.
Student Rabbi Gabriel Webber, of the York Liberal Jewish Community, will be speaking and community member Jack Morris will be reciting Kaddish on behalf of those who died at the tower in 1190.
In one of the worst anti-Semitic massacres of the Middle Ages, the city’s entire Jewish community was trapped by an angry mob inside the tower and many chose to commit suicide rather than be murdered or forcibly baptised.
