DOUBLE BRIT Award winner and founder of Fairground Attraction Mark Nevin will perform in Selby this week.

The songwriter, responsible for the multimillion-selling Perfect, has also written songs for Morrissey, Ringo Starr, Kirsty MacColl, Joe Cocker and David Bowie, and will perform with his band at Selby Town Hall on Saturday, March 17.

His latest album, My Unfashionable Opinion, has been described as "songs of hope, joy, ironic insight and spectacular humanity", and his show will include stories from his career between new and old songs.

Chris Jones, Selby Town Council arts officer, said: "Mark Nevin is one of the most acclaimed and accomplished songwriters of the late 20th and early 21st century.

"He was the creative force driving one of the biggest bands of the late eighties in Fairground Attraction and the musical brains behind Morrissey at the height of his post-Smiths fame. Mark’s tales of life in the music business feature a veritable who’s who of major players. It feels like he’s worked with pretty much everyone while also remaining a fan with wide-eyed, boyish intrigue and great stories throughout. This show is going to be a real treat."

Tickets cost £14 in advance, £16 on the door, and are available at the venue, by phoning 01757 708449 or online at selbytownhall.co.uk
