THE Archbishop of York has shared his experience of love and acceptance within his own childhood home in Uganda, which he says he shared with a Muslim foster brother and sister.
Expressing respect for the religious freedom of others, Dr John Sentamu encouraged Christians not to be afraid to speak boldly about their faith and to learn about other religions.
He said that sadly, ‘religious illiteracy’ was widespread, and better religious education was needed.
He said sharing a meal together was ‘a holy thing to do’ and spoke positively about coming and standing together, or otherwise ‘we can make false assumptions about each other.’
He said he wanted to share his belief that all were made in God’s image and likeness.
The Archbishop was giving an address to the York Interfaith Group, which meets every first Tuesday of the month at City of York Council’s West Offices in Station Rise and gives diverse members of various faiths a chance to gather and hear from invited speakers.
A group spokesman said the Archbishop’s visit was ‘warmly received.’
