A SPORTING group in North Yorkshire has been given £500 by a local homebuilder.

Scalby Sports Association, in Scarborough, received the funding from Taylor Wimpey North Yorkshire, which will go towards the cost of renovating its pavilion, in Carr Lane, which has been home to Scalby Football and Cricket Club since 1999.

Jon Barton, Scalby Cricket Club treasurer and chairman of Scalby Sports Association, said: "We’re one of Scarborough’s oldest clubs and have a rich history in both sports. Today, we have seven football and cricket teams who all share and depend on our facilities.

"We’d like to thank Taylor Wimpey for its helpful donation. Its generosity has been instrumental in helping us to extend our offering to current and future players."

Anne Bagshaw, sales and marketing director for Taylor Wimpey North Yorkshire, said: "Scalby Sports Association is close to our High Mill development and we feel compelled to help. This sporting club plays a pivotal role in providing fitness and social opportunities to many local residents, so we’re proud to back this fantastic organisation."
