JOSH SCHOFIELD set a new City of York Athletic Club record when clocking 14 minutes 42 seconds at the Armagh International 5K road race.

Schofield finished 63rd in a very high-calibre race, which saw 94 runners break the 15-minute barrier.

York’s Tyler Hutchinson, meanwhile, won a silver medal in the under-23 category of the Yorkshire Fell Running Championships, which were held within the Ilkley Moor race.

Hutchinson completed the 8km course in 40-35 to finish second in class behind Nathan Lawson of Dark Peak Fell Runners.

Elsewhere, York’s Christina Nick picked up bronze in the women’s shot at the BUCS Indoor Championships in Sheffield following a throw of 12.97 metres.

City of York’s Jack Eggington came third in the Liversedge Half Marathon, clocking one hour 16 minutes 19 seconds. Clubmate Seren Hughes was the eighth lady home in 1-39-34.

The club also had three first-place finishes in last Saturday’s parkruns, with Luca Parker recording 16-01 at York’s Knavesmire course, while Kyle McLeay and Rebecca Wilkinson both ran 19-09 to be the first man and first lady at Wetherby and Hull respectively.

Meanwhile, York Knavesmire Harriers have rung in their 40th year of existence with club record-breaking membership numbers.

Formed in 1979 with just two representatives, the running club has become one of the largest in the country and has just welcomed its 400th member.

A statement said of the achievement: "This unprecedented figure takes the club into record-breaking territory.

"Our continued growth shows the commitment to the wellbeing of our members and is recognition of our presence and success across multiple running disciplines including road, fell and cross country."

The Harriers - who also organise the flagship Brass Monkey Half Marathon which brings near to 2,000 runners to the city - cater for a range of abilities and run types. For more details, visit yorkknavesmireharriers.co.uk
