A MAN who was paid £15 to dispose of several bags of rubbish has been hit with a £730 fine for flytipping the waste on the roadside.

Ashlee Jordan Berry, of Jameson Road in Bridlington, pleaded guilty to illegally disposing of waste on land in Woldgate at Beverley Magistrates’ Court on February 21 after an investigation by East Riding of Yorkshire Council.

Officers discovered rubbish including clothes, a window blind, a tin of paint and letters at the site on July 6 2017. They traced the items back to a resident who said she had paid Berry £15 to take away several bags of waste.

The council is warning people that they could face a prison sentence or an unlimited fine if they are caught flytipping and anyone paying a firm to have their rubbish taken away should check the company is registered with the Environment Agency.

Mike Featherby, head of street scene services at the council, said: “Residents need to be aware that they are legally responsible for their own rubbish and need to be extremely careful who they give it to, because it may end up being flytipped.

“We would urge them to take waste to their local household waste recycling site, use a licensed waste carrier or the council’s bulky waste collection service.

“All reports of flytipping are investigated by the council and any evidence found will be used to bring a prosecution.”
