TEN local charities have received grants from Malton and Norton Lions as part of the Lions Club International centenary celebrations.

Lions president Mike Lynch presented cheques to charities that support a wide range of people in the community, young and old.

Mike said: “This is the first time Malton and Norton Lions have operated a formal grant scheme and we are delighted that it has been such a great success. It is a pleasure to be able to support local charities who are doing some brilliant work in the Malton and Norton area.

“The Lions work throughout the year raising funds to support local charities and individuals and we felt as part of our centenary celebrations we wanted to offer grants to a wider range of groups that may not have thought of approaching us for funding in the past, but who want to deliver smaller projects that benefit others in the area.”

Recipients of the Lions centenary grants are: Norton Hive Library and Community Hub, Musical Memories CIC, Ryedale Carers Support, Settrington Village hall, Kirkham Henry Performing Arts CIC, 1st Norton Guides, The Milton Rooms, Swinton Playgroup, Wintringham Village Hall and Ryedale YMCA.
