BELLOW Theatre bring their Hull, UK City of Culture 2017 show, Bare Skin On Briny Waters, to the York Theatre Royal Studio tomorrow night.

Led by Maureen Lennon and Tabitha Mortiboy, Bellow's play explores survival and escape in forgotten seaside towns as a pair of young women struggle to keep their heads above water.

Lennon, the company’s co-artistic director, says: "We’re so excited to bring this piece to York. It’s really rooted in our experiences growing up in Hull and we think its narrative will really resonate with another city so close to home.

"Our piece questions young women’s place in the world: it's about female anger, love and the struggle for independence and investigates how a generation promised everything can forge its own path."

Bellow Theatre are Supported Artists of Hull Truck Theatre and a New Diorama Theatre Emerging Company for 2017/18, whose intimate, moving theatre work is marked by DIY aesthetics and brave, stirring female-led storytelling.

Bare Skin On Briny Waters originally was developed for Hull’s Heads Up Festival and was then part of the Hull, UK City of Culture 2017 Take Over at the Edinburgh Fringe. The one-hour show features live original folk music and is designed by Naomi Kuyck-Cohen with lighting design by Will Monks.

Tickets for tomorrow's 7.45pm performance are on sale at yorktheatreroyal.co.uk or on 01904 623568.
