A MAN was allegedly punched and kicked in the face in Selby.

North Yorkshire Police said a 20-year-old man was assaulted by a number of men near The Griffin pub in Micklegate between approximately 3am to 3.30am on Sunday.

The victim sustained facial injuries caused by being punched and kicked and was taken by ambulance to York Hospital where he was discharged following treatment, the force added.

A spokesman for the force said: "We are requesting the public’s assistance to help establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.

"In particular, we are appealing for information about a man described as white, approximately 20-25 years old, approximately 5’9 and of stocky build with a beard. The male was wearing a hat and a cream jacket."
