A CHARITY event is being held on Friday in memory of a five-year-old boy who died from cancer.

Harry Flatt, who lived in Hovingham with his parents Gary and Elissa, sister Beatrice and brother, Teddy, died last August after suffering from acute myeloid leukaemia.

The Barber Lounge and Handford Hairdressing in Helmsley is organising the fundraising evening at the White Swan in Ampleforth, to raise money for Martin House Hospice in Harry’s memory.

Elliott Handford, from The Barber Lounge, said: “We decided to do our charity event in Harry’s name because he used to come in with his dad and get his hair cut.

“We normally do one charity event a year usually for the homeless, but when we found out what had happened to one of our young customers we decided we had to do it for Harry.”

To start the evening some of Harry’s classmates from Hovingham Primary School will be letting off lanterns to celebrate his life.

There will be a hair and fashion show showcasing modern and traditional men’s and women hair with clothes from The Magpie Room in Helmsley, followed by an auction of two tickets, plus hospitality to the Porsche Carrera Cup donated by Simon Leonard of Redline Racing and a raffle with prizes donated from the local community.

The evening will finish with music from local acoustic musician and singer, Josh Finn, with support on the drums from Liam Ledgeway.

Elliott said: “Many customers to The Barber Lounge have heard Harry’s story and why we’re doing our charity event but can’t make it on the night but have kindly donated anyway.

“Myself, Michele Handford and Kayleigh Dobbs of The Barber Lounge and Handford Hairdressing would like to thank all the models and everyone who has volunteered their time to helping this event and everyone who donated and donated raffle prizes and The White Swan for providing the venue.”

The fundraising evening starts at 7.30pm and admission tickets are £5.
