A COLOURFUL new night club will launch in Selby on Saturday night.

Popworld is set to open a branch in a room inside The George Inn on Market Place, creating six new jobs at the site.

The club is known for its colourful cocktails, 90s music and brightly decorated interiors.

A launch party will be held from 10pm on Saturday with retro music, life-sized Lego men and performers showing off their circus skills.

Richard Seaman, general manager at Popworld Selby, said staff are looking forward to the club’s opening night.

He added: “It’s a fabulous venue, I don’t think Selby knows what’s going to hit it.

“It’s a massive change, we are hoping to get new customers in and keep our existing revellers.

“It’s quite a nice, cosy room. It holds about 230 people so it gets a great atmosphere.

“Popworld is loved all over the UK and we are so excited to be landing in Selby.

“We have deals galore and a jam-packed schedule of events to keep people partying.

“With such envious offerings, we’re confident that locals will be delighted with the new biggest nights in town.”

Organisers have promised a soundtrack including hits from the Spice Girls, S Club 7, Steps and Five.

There will also be offers available on some of the bar’s sweet shop-inspired cocktails including one named Tin Pop, which comes served inside a tin can, and Flaska, which is drunk from a jam jar.

Richard said staff have been training to create alcoholic drinks featuring their favourite treats including lollipops, cola bottles and candy.

The bar will have a VIP area as well as booths and customers will be able to book a cocktail masterclass to learn how to make some of the club’s most popular drinks.

Popworld already has a branch on George Hudson Street in York which is open seven days a week.

The club in Selby will be open on Saturday nights from 10pm until 3am.

Stonegate Pub Company, the owners of Popworld, are the largest pub operator in the UK.
