A 53-YEAR-OLD woman suffered serious internal injuries in a crash near York, police have revealed.

North Yorkshire Police said officers who were on patrol in the area came across the collision between a blue Land Rover 90 and a grey Peugeot 208, which happened on the A19 near the Happy Haddock takeaway at Deighton at 11.25am on Sunday.

A spokeswoman said ambulance and fire and rescue crews attended the scene and the road was closed at 12.15pm from Crockey Hill to allow emergency services to deal with the incident. Fire crews cut off the car’s roof to free a trapped casualty. The road reopened at 4pm following recovery of the vehicles and debris being cleaned from the road.

“The two male occupants of the Land Rover - the driver, a 33-year-old man from Selby, and his passenger, a 72-year-old man from Selby, were described as walking wounded,” she said.

“They were both taken to York Hospital for treatment - the driver for cuts and bruises and the passenger for a suspected broken ankle.

“The two female occupants of the Peugeot were the driver, a 65-year-old woman, and her passenger, a 53-year-old woman. The driver was described as walking wounded and taken to hospital by road ambulance.The 53-year-old passenger received serious internal injuries and was taken by road ambulance for further treatment.”

She asked anyone who witnessed the incident or the vehicles prior to the collision to phone police on 101.
