A MAN has appeared in court charged with causing the death of a child by dangerous driving.
Patrick James Veitch, 48, is alleged to have been at the wheel of a Porsche Panamera when he was involved in an incident on the A64 near Grimston Bar, York.
Veitch, a company director, also faces charges of causing serious injury to another child and to a man by dangerous driving at the same time in the same incident.
The road was closed for several hours while emergency services dealt with the incident and to enable paramedics to take several injured people to hospital by air and road ambulances.
Veitch, who gave his address as a detached house in Fenwicks Lane, Fulford, York, did not enter a plea during the brief hearing at York Magistrates’ Court at which he was represented by London barrister David Whittaker.
Magistrates sent his case to York Crown Court where he will appear for a plea and trial preparation hearing on March 16. He was released on unconditional bail until then.
