A CHARITY shop in York has reopened its doors after undergoing a revamp.

The Mind store in Goodramgate was shut last week while the week-long refurbishment took place, but reopened again on Monday.

The Lord Mayor of York, councillor Barbara Boyce, cut the ribbon at a ceremony in the morning.

Caroline Byers, shop manager, said: "The management and volunteer team are over the moon with the new shop and its new layout.

"A big thank you to my volunteer team for their help and support in setting up the shop in two days following the refurbishment.

"A big thank you to Denise Welch and and Dame Judi Dench for their support, and also York Cocoa House who donated chocolates to us to be handed out to customers.

"Also, thank you to the Lord Mayor for attending and opening the shop."

Before the reopening, York-born actress Dame Judi Dench said: "I am delighted that the Mind shop in York is celebrating its reopening after a facelift. I’m sorry I cannot join you, but I send good wishes to all the staff who do sterling work for such an important charity."

Actress Denise Welch, an ambassador for Mind, added: "I am thrilled to support the wonderful volunteers and managers at York Mind shop on its reopening. I love the beautiful city of York and its friendly residents, and am a huge fan of Mind, which works tirelessly to improve mental health."

The shop raises funds for the Mind charity, which provides independent mental health support throughout the country.
