A RYEDALE guest house owner is celebrating victory in a Channel 4 reality show.

Laskill Country House and its owner Mandy Sowray were eventual winners in last week’s Four in a Bed series.

Laskill Country House, situated in Bilsdale, six miles north of Helmsley, was up against three other establishments from Shropshire, Leicestershire and East Sussex.

Farmer’s daughter Mandy teamed up with friend Anny Harrison, who runs the next-door B&B Laskill Grange, for the show.

Speaking of the pair’s win, Mandy said: “I’m delighted and the response has been overwhelming.”

She added that bookings had been coming in thick and fast from people who had seen the show, sometimes booking dates almost a year in advance.

The show, which started in 2010, involves four B&B owners from around the country who take it in turns to stay with one another. The guests then pay what they consider fair for their experience. The winner is then the establishment named best value for money.

Mandy said the show was filmed over a “whirlwind” two weeks last July - but only after they were picked by the production team following an hour-long phone interview and a three-hour screen

test.

“It was great fun filming but absolutely exhausting,” she said, adding they had “a camera in your face from the minute you wake up on a morning to rolling over to sleep on a night”.

Laskill Country House, which Mandy said is her “universe”, is situated deep in the countryside of the North York Moors. The establishment wins a plaque which will be put up in the foyer.

The first show aired on Monday, January 22 on Channel 4, then it ran for the rest of the week, with Mandy and Anny being announced as winners on Friday.

It is available for catch-up viewing on All4.
