TRAFFIC on the A19 should improve as the road reopens to two lanes after roadworks.

The first phase of the roadworks on the A19 at Crockey Hill, part of the Germany Beck development, have been completed, and City of York Council said the emergency restrictions at the Wheldrake Lane junction have also been lifted.

There is still no right turn into Wheldrake Lane from the A19, and the second phase of the works - set to last a maximum of six weeks - is set to start, though during this time, the council said all bus routes would return to their normal routes and timetables.

Utility works from Monday, January 29, will be coordinated by the council with use of temporary traffic lights but will again reduce traffic to a single lane at Germany Beck for up to four days.

Drivers have been urged to plan ahead and allow extra time for journeys or consider alternative routes.
