THREE people allegedly followed a man with mobility problems to his flat where they robbed him, a York jury heard.

William Edward Howgego, 37, pulled the victim’s t-shirt over his head after Darren George Linsdell, 32, and Storm Amber Elliott, 19, had grabbed him, claimed Caroline Wigin, opening the prosecution.

She alleged Linsdell threatened the victim with a knife and Elliott took £150 off him.

When the victim rang 999, Howgego grabbed his phone and threw it to the ground, alleged Ms Wigin.

Howgego claimed to police the next day he had been “in the wrong place at the wrong time” and had been trying to help the victim.

Howgego, of Wycliffe Avenue, Tang Hall, denies robbery.

Linsdell and Elliott were convicted of robbery at a trial last autumn.

The jury at York Crown Court saw a series of CCTV films.

The prosecution allege they show the three defendants together outside the One Stop Shop in Walmgate, York, during the afternoon of May 24.

They then allegedly show the victim walking with a stick and going into the shop where, he told police, he withdrew £150 in cash.

According to the prosecution, the CCTV shows Elliott looking through the shop window before the man leaves, goes home via a betting shop and the three defendants allegedly leave simultaneously on bikes.

The jury saw CCTV taken at a pub opposite the flats where the victim lives.

According to the prosecution, the film shows the victim arriving, the three defendants gathering near the block of flats before going out of sight towards it and later returning into sight and cycling off together.

The jury saw more CCTV, which according to the prosecution shows the three outside One Stop Shop after the robbery.

Howgego told police on May 25 he didn’t have much to do with Linsdell and Elliott, but followed them away from the shop to see what they were doing.

He claimed Linsdell had pulled the t-shirt over the victim’s head and he had grabbed the victim to try and put his t-shirt back.

The trial continues.
