A TAXI driver’s licence has been suspended by the police after they were caught speeding with no lights on.
North Yorkshire Police teamed up with City of York Council and the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) on Saturday night as part of an operation to crackdown on illegal York taxis.
An officer recorded one taxi, in Melrosegate, Tang Hall, doing 45mph in a 30mph zone while driving in the dark with no lights on.
The private hire driver was reported for careless driving and their licence to drive taxis in the city was suspended immediately.
Several other cars were reprimanded for having defects.
