A TEAM of students are holding their first professional exhibition in Selby Abbey this week.

Eight HND Art & Design students from Selby College are displaying photography and other digital artwork from their course at the Abbey, with photography from last July's Selby Arts Festival among the art on show.

Abby Clark, Eloise Livsey and Grace Priddy worked as official event photographers for the festival, and their photographs cover a range of the festival’s shows and events, including gigs from Patch and the Giant, Seth Lakeman and celebrity comedian Ed Byrne, as well as a selection of street performances.

Also featured in the exhibition is work by two Selby College learners from a recent 1920s-themed charity event, which took place at Riccall Regen Centre for children’s cancer charity Candlelighters.

Eloise Livesy said: "It is a great opportunity for us, as we have been allowed to freely plan and organise our very own exhibition from start to finish, and to be able to do this in such a beautiful venue in our local area is fantastic.

"Our work is personal to each of us and also features events that we have taken part in as freelance photographers, so it is a great way to get our work out there and help push our creative careers."

Abby Clark said: "Being part of an exhibition in somewhere as magnificent as Selby Abbey has been a fantastic experience. It has allowed me to gain an understanding of what is incorporated in the organisation of a big event.

"It is also great to see a range of audiences showing interest in my work - the appreciation of my work, from both clients and the general public really does make it all worthwhile."

The students’ collections are on display at Selby Abbey now until January 26, daily between 9am-4pm, and entry is free.
