ONE of York's MPs has been named hardest working in Yorkshire.

The poll, carried out by the Leeds Hack - the website of the BA and MSc in journalism at Leeds Beckett University - ranks all of Yorkshire's 51 MPs on how busy and thrifty they are, and found Rachael Maskell, MP for York Central, was top of the 2017 list.

Figures showed she voted in 90.70 per cent of votes in this Parliament, received answers to 218 written questions, spoke in 106 debates and mentioned her constituency 137 times.

Ms Maskell said she considered being a Member of Parliament a huge responsibility, and she was "determined to use every platform possible to put the needs of my constituents first and to fight for a fairer country".

She said: "While most the work I do is behind the scenes, I believe it is my duty to be as vocal as possible on the issue that people in York face every day. I am humbled that the for the second year in a row, I have been identified as the most prudent, yet industrious MP as I seek to participate in scrutinising Government and participating in debates in Parliament.

"I make it my priority to meet constituents, hold regular surgeries and support community events to really listen to the challenges and experience of others, and then to advocate for them. I make a point of holding regular public meetings to listen to people’s views on key issues of the day, and hope to do more of this in the future. Whilst I have come top in of this research, this is also thanks to my amazing staff and my constituents. This rating is a team effort and I will use this to spur me on in doing all I can for York, Yorkshire and the country."

Kevin Holinrake, MP for Thirsk and Malton, placed thirteenth, voting in 96.5 per cent of votes, receiving answers to 19 written questions, speaking in 76 debates and mentioning his constituency 10 times.

Andrew Jones, MP for Harrogate and Knaresborough and Exchequer Secretary, placed 38th, as figures showed he voted in 95.3 per cent of votes, received answers to no written questions, spoke in 27 debates and did not mention his constituency once.
