WEATHER forecasters have issued a 'yellow warning' for snow in York and North Yorkshire on Sunday.

The Met Office has warned that sleet and snow will spread eastwards across the region on Sunday morning, with heavy snow currently expected to fall for a while at lunchtime even at lower levels such as York.

Driving conditions, particularly over higher levels such as the North York Moors, could be treacherous.

The warning means people should be aware of the risk of snow, which is likely to affect some roads and railways and cause some injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces.

The snow is expected to turn to sleet and then rain later in the day and it will become much less cold next Monday and Tuesday with sunny spells, and temperatures in York could reach as high as 12 C by next Wednesday.
