FAMILY run York coach company Just Travel has ceased trading - and has handed over its contracts to another operator.

Founded in 1999 by James Simpson, Just Travel operated a fleet of full-sized coaches and minibuses from its base at Acaster Malbis Airfield.

Now coach and bus company York Pullman has stepped in to operate school transport and coach bookings previously run by the closed company.

A statement sent to The Press from Just Travel owners James and Jane Simpson says: “We have taken the decision to close the business of Just Travel (York) Ltd.

“This is in the best future interests of our valued clients, our staff and our family.

"This hasn’t been an easy decision and one which was not taken lightly, however with Peter Kay’s sentiments just recently of family first, this is what we have chosen to do.

“We have been in the coach industry for over 20 years and in that time seen so many changes and met so many incredible people; from the schools we have served to the people we have provided vehicles for.”

The company has assigned the contracts, goodwill, diary and phone numbers to York Pullman Bus Company, which will continue to operate them with its own vehicles.

The statement adds: “Hopefully some of our staff may find employment with them.

"Our fleet and assets will be disposed of privately in the coming months and James will be joining Tom and his team in a part-time role to assist them with their operation, which he is looking forward to.”

The Simpsons confirmed that any existing bookings into 2018 made with Just Travel will be honoured by York Pullman at the rates agreed on booking.

“We would like to sincerely thank all of our staff for their commitment to us and our clients for their custom over the years and we wish York Pullman all the very best going forward.”

Tom James, managing director of York Pullman, confirmed that all services would continue and that five former Just Travel staff had secured positions with York Pullman.

He added: “We haven’t bought the company but we are operating the services as a permanent arrangement.”
