A NEW strategy for mental health will be discussed in York next week.

Members of York’s Health and Wellbeing board will meet on Wednesday (JAN 24), with a newly-formed mental health partnership which aims to ensure "every single resident enjoys the best possible emotional and mental health and wellbeing throughout the course of their life".

The strategy aims to spot the early signs of mental ill health and intervene earlier, preventing tragedy, improving recovery and rehabilitation, services for mothers, children and young people and those with learning disabilities, and ensuring "York becomes a suicide safer city".

Cllr Carol Runciman said: "This five year strategy looks to ensure that every resident in York enjoys the best possible health and wellbeing and will see us establish a city wide mental health partnership to improve mental health and wellbeing for people of all ages.

"We want York to have services that support people in need without delay where there is no stigma and discrimination and where everyone has the best mental and emotional wellbeing. Working with partners across the city this strategy will help us to achieve this."

The Health and Wellbeing Board meeting takes place on Wednesday, January 24, from 4.30pm and is open to members of the public or to watch online at york.gov.uk/webcasts
