AN 88-YEAR-OLD cyclist was left with "potentially life-threatening injuries" after a collision with a car, which failed to stop, police say.

The crash happened at around 11.15am yesterday on Queensgate at the roundabout junction of St Chad Road in Bridlington, Humberside Police said.

A police spokesman explained: "An 88-year-old man suffered serious and potentially life-threatening injuries in the collision when he was knocked from his cycle by a car. The driver of the car failed to stop following the collision, and has yet to be identified."

Humberside Police is urging anyone who witnessed the collision or saw or red vehicle in the vicinity of the crash yesterday morning to get in touch.

The police spokesman added: "Witnesses reported the car to be a red Citroen Picasso but we have not confirmed that this is the case and we are appealing for anyone who may have information that would help us identify the vehicle and the driver to call us."
