A MAN who allegedly spent a decade on the run has appeared before York Magistrates' Court.
Michael John Walsh, 75, is charged with failure to return to prison in 2008.
He had been released on licence partway through a prison sentence and is alleged to have disobeyed an order from the Parole Board to return to prison.
Walsh, of Partido Pie, Gallina, De Alhaurin El Grande, Malaga, initially appeared before a court in Madrid, Spain. Judges there ordered his extradition to the UK.
Magistrates sent his case to York Crown Court, where he will appear on February 2. He did not apply for bail and was remanded in custody.
