A BATHROOM shop has opened in a former hardware store’s premises in Acomb.
H2O Bathrooms, which already has an outlet in Stockton on the Forest, has created a second shop in York Road, Acomb, where Barnitts used to be.
The Lord Mayor of York, Cllr Barbara Boyce, cut a ribbon to formally open the new store.
H20 owner Stephen Finch said it had had premises at the Bull Centre, near Deans Garden Centre on the outskirts of Stockton, for the past five years.
He said the second store in Acomb, whose manager was Keeley Wroe, would make it much more convenient for customers from the western side of York to visit.
He said H20 sold everything from taps to a complete bathroom suite.
Barnitts closed its Acomb store in 2016 at the end of its 25-year lease, saying it was no longer “commercially viable” to continue trading in Acomb.
The firm’s huge city centre store in Colliergate has remained open.
