YORK Opera's rehearsals for Tales Of Love And Passion are under way.

The show will be performed at the National Centre for Early Music, York, on May 16 and 17 at 7.30pm and will be in the style of two previous evenings of staged excerpts: Tales Of Love and Tales Of Disguise And Deception.

The latest will feature four extracts from the operas La Boheme, Cavalleria Rusticana, Eugene Onegin and Hugh The Drover. The chorus will be involved in two pieces and the other two will be soloists only.

Several solo roles of varying size are available, with auditions to be held at the end of January. Chorus rehearsals take place on Thursday evenings at Lidgett Grove Methodist Church and new members are very welcome. For more information about rehearsals and auditions, contact York Opera on 01904 781126.

Tales Of Love And Passion follows last autumn's York Opera production of Gilbert and Sullivan's Patience at York Theatre Royal.
