POLICE searching for a man in connection with a murder in an East Yorkshire village have found a body in North Yorkshire.

Officers from Humberside Poice said that officers discovered the body of a man believed to be 55-year-old Anthony Lawrence in a vehicle in a rural location in North Yorkshire at 6pm yesterday.

DCI Stewart Miller said: "Mr Lawrence was wanted in relation to the murder of Shane Gilmer, 30, and the attempted murder of his pregnant girlfriend Laura Sugden on Friday.

"Since Friday evening, we have been carrying out extensive enquiries into Mr Lawrence's whereabouts, which led to the location in North Yorkshire, upon where officers discovered a body.

"We are being supported by North Yorkshire Police as part of our wider investigation."

The body's discovery came only 90 minutes after police revealed fresh details about the murder on Friday evening in Southburn, near Driffield.

They said a crossbow had been recovered from the scene and Laura and her unborn baby were stable.

They said what was really important to the police was that they find Anthony Lawrence, who was also known as Tony Howarth and brought him in safely.

They did not believe he was a threat to the wider public as it was an isolated incident and he was known to Shane and Laura, who were neighbours.

A police helicopter and dog units had been deployed in the continuing hunt for Mr Lawrence.
