Plastics should be recycled at home IN VIEW of the appalling revelations that the UK has been shipping vast quantities of plastic, especially PET, to China for many years, would it not be a good idea to bring a chance to York and have a genuine recycling plant set up here in the city?
I mean a genuine plant to process the plastic from not just York but the whole of the (Northern Powerhouse??) area, not just a depot for onward reselling as seems to have been the case.
There are many ways to use waste plastic in innovative ways, such as reducing the amount of highly toxic bitumen in asphalt by substituting waste plastic into the mix.
Such a plant would bring much-needed employment to the city and solve the disposal problem that will no doubt occur now the Chinese are not going to ‘empty our bins’ anymore.
