GROUSE moor managers on the North York Moors say they have had a successful season.
The North Yorkshire Moors Moorland Organisation (NYMMO) said 200 driven shoot days were hosted throughout the four-month season on estates across the region - up by 23 per cent on the previous year.
It says most estates witnessed a full shooting programme due to favourable weather conditions.
Spokeswoman Tina Brough said most estate members had welcomed both domestic and international visitors right into the final weeks of the season, which ended in December.
She said the grouse industry was a lifeline for many in the rural community, offering employment opportunities and supporting many local businesses, with 45 full-time keepers employed on estates across the moors and on average each grouse moor employing around 23 extra people per shoot day.
