What is the point of my recycling efforts?
ON Friday, December 29 I watched my recyclable waste, which I had carefully segregated, being collected.
The three recycling boxes were emptied into a single wheeled bin that the collectors had brought with them.
This was then tipped into a standard refuse collecting lorry, rather than the specialised recycling collection vehicle that is normally used.
No doubt it is all now on its way to landfill.
If I contacted City of York Council, probably I would be told one of the following: - The waste would be re-separated later at some mythical recycling plant - The specialist recycling collection vehicle was not available due to a breakdown - All extra vehicles were pressed into service to meet the post-Christmas peak in recyclables - [insert your own excuse here] Can someone please explain to me the point of all my recycling labours?
