VIDEO has been captured of what is believed to be a “huge” meteor sweeping across the skies over York on New Year’s Eve.
Danny Spencer filmed the meteor travelling over the city.
Residents in the region have taken to social media to describe what they saw.
Mark Thorley, of Barlow, near Selby, was with his friend Roman Vale when the meteor appeared.
Mark said: “As it passed directly in front of us a number of bright orange fragments could be seen breaking away from it.
“It’s size was huge in comparison to a shooting star. My best description would be of an intercontinental ballistic missile but bright blue/turquoise with a very, very long bright yellowish white trail. I am 51 and have never seen anything like it.”
