A CAR which had been stolen in a burglary has crashed into a house in a village near York.

Police have tweeted that a search was launched for two burglary suspects after the crash, which happened in Rufforth at about 4am yesterday as the vehicle was travelling through the village at high speed and lost control.

A spokesman said two occupants in the vehicle were apprehended, one of whom was suffering from minor injuries, and they were helping police with their inquiries.

An officer tweeted that two suspects were arrested after a foot chase, and one was remanded over Christmas on suspicion of burglary, aggravated taking of a vehicle without the owner's consent,  and driving whilst disqualified and with no insurance and the other was still in custody.

North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service said firefighters from Acomb were called by police to the collision in Wetherby Road, Rufforth, at 7.26am.

A spokesman said police had stated that a car was being recovered after colliding with a house.

"As this incident had occurred some hours earlier, the crew carried out scene safety only, as no persons remained on scene," he added.

Neither service could provide any information about the extent of damage to the property.
