A FISH and chip shop in Selby has been broken into and a till, charity boxes and tip jar allegedly stolen from inside.
A member of staff at Abbey Fisheries, in Gowthorpe, found that the front door had a panel smashed when they arrived at 6am today.
Once inside, the employee discovered that the till, which was empty, two charity boxes containing about £40 in total, and a tip jar with more than £100 in it had all been taken, according to the shop’s manager Lesley van Velzen.
Altogether, about £140 has been stolen, she said.
Lesley also said the burglary could have happened yesterday afternoon or overnight.
She added: "We're only a little shop and a small team. So for somebody to break-in is quite deflating."
Despite the break-in, Abbey Fisheries still opened at 11am today.
A spokeswoman for North Yorkshire Police said: "A break-in was reported this morning (18/12/17) at Abbey Fisheries, Gowthorpe, Selby."
