FREE screenings of the Doctor Who Christmas Special and the first two of three new episodes of The League of Gentlemen have been shown in York.

Fans of the shows flocked to the Guildhall, off St Helen’s Square, on Friday to watch the episodes as part of a preview screening tour across the north of England, organised by the BBC.

Lucky ticket-holders were also able to pose for photos on the BBC’s red carpet and with props from the programmes.

This year’s Doctor Who Christmas special, Twice Upon A Time, features Peter Capaldi as the Doctor for the last time.

He is joined by York-born actor David Bradley, who reprises his role as the First Doctor. Fans enjoyed a preview of the seasonal special at the Guildhall, apart from the last few moments which were kept as a surprise until the BBC One broadcast on Christmas Day.

David Bradley said: “It’s really exciting that Doctor Who fans in the north have the opportunity to see the Christmas special first. I really enjoyed playing the First Doctor and as I’m from Yorkshire, it’s extra special to me that the screenings are here.”

The League of Gentlemen returns to BBC Two this Christmas with three new episodes to celebrate their 20th anniversary at the BBC.
