A PERFORMING arts centre has been awarded a Lottery grant to improve its current facilities.

Kirkham Henry Performing Arts Community Interest Company has been given £9,801 to improve the safety and security of its premises in Horsemarket Road, Malton.

Angela Kirkham, director of Kirkham Henry, said the funding will be used to provide new windows to studio three to keep the weather out.

“It will also be used to provide a new fire escape and disabled access to the rear of the building, a footpath to the rear of the building to enable safe entrance and exit,” she said.

“We will also close the current escape from the boys’ changing room, installing a window and ventilation, along with coat hooks and benches.

"Further work will be carried out on the kitchen with a new ceiling, cupboards, plasterwork, tiles and water boiler.”

Angela added: “Receiving this award is a mark of quality of the work Kirkham Henry Performing Arts is doing in the local community. Massive thanks to Kirkham Henry CIC director Poll Park for all her hard work in form filling in order for us to be awarded this wonderful grant.

“Kirkham Henry still needs to raise funds to complete the refurbishment and all of our current fundraising efforts will be directed towards paying for this. If anyone has any ideas for more fundraising or knows of other grants we can apply for, please tell us.”
