A CHARITY supporting vulnerable people has purchased two minibuses to provide more days out.

Age UK originally had two buses, one of which was part funded by the York Rotary Club, but has doubled its fleet after the charity bought two second hand buses from the Red Cross.

They will be used to take 200 residents to the charity’s clubs every week, which recently hosted activities run by Big Ian Donaghy from the band Huge.

Sally Hutchinson, of AGE UK York, said: “We hope to be able to extend our services to help older people with transport needs like shopping and getting to hospital, but we need volunteer drivers to use their own cars or the buses so we can move forward and improve transport availability for the older people of York.”

Mr Donaghy added: “Age UK do amazing work in the city.

“These clubs stop people being bored by yet another episode of Flog It as they are out enjoying the company of others with a smile and a wonderful lunch. Clubs like this prevent loneliness and isolation and promote togetherness.”
