THREE men were arrested in North Yorkshire last night on suspicion of entering the UK illegally.
Officers were called to Wetherby services following a report of a man possibly getting off the back of a lorry. When they arrived at the services they arrested a man.
Police received a further call reporting people on the A1(M) having used the SOS call box.
Two men were found and arrested by police. All three were detained on suspicion of illegal entry to the UK.
Acting Inspector Paul Cording, of North Yorkshire Police, wrote on Twitter: "Speaking to the initial reportee, he saw the first male in distress and he kept saying “Police”. Reportee called us and then took the male in to the services and bought him some food & drink whilst awaiting our arrival."
He added: "Then a further call from @HighwaysYORKS reporting people on the #A1(M) having used the SOS call box. Two further males located and detained. Once placed in the van it appears all 3 know each other and are from #Iran."
