VOLUNTEERS from the York health and wellbeing business, Benenden, organised a festive party for all residents and staff at City Mills, Independent living communities, part of the sheltered housing scheme in York city centre.

Set up as part of a partnership between Benenden colleagues and York Cares, the party saw a team of volunteers delivering festive cheer to the City Mills residents.

They donned their Christmas hats, sang traditional carols, took part in a festive quiz and listened to the tenants as they reminisced with a festive mince pie.

Councillor Sam Lisle, Executive member for housing at City of York Council, said: “I’m delighted that Benenden and York Cares supported this festive celebration for our warm and vibrant community at City Mills, who I had the pleasure of meeting earlier this year."

Community events like this are brilliant opportunities for wider engagement and are always thoroughly enjoyed by residents."

Nicola Taylor, CSR and Engagement Co-ordinator from Benenden said:: "it is always a real pleasure to take part in the Christmas party and have the opportunity to meet the residents.

"We hopefully put a smile on their faces and put them all in a festive mood. At this time of the year it is especially important to give something back to the local community.”

Caroline Wilcock, Volunteering Projects Officer at York Cares said:

“Benenden volunteers always have so much fun bringing Christmas cheer into people's homes in York - it really brightens the residents' day.

"The annual Christmas parties are a great opportunity for local businesses to give something back to the community, and it’s encouraging to see how a small amount of time given up can make such a big difference.”
