BISHOPTHORPE White Rose Football Club scored a goal after the city's executive agreed that the team that fields 400 boys and girls will get its own sports pitches.

As city councillors approved leasing the club land behind London Bridge service station in Tadcaster Road, the club will have a home ground for the first time in its history.

The club’s 400 members, aged five to 19, currently play matches across five different sites and need a clubhouse and focal point in the community, club secretary Josh Wong told the meeting on Thursday.

Cllr Ann Reid, interim executive member for culture, leisure and tourism told the meeting: "There is a pressing need for the White Rose club to have a permanent home."

The plan is for three 11-a-side pitches, two 9-a-side pitches and three 7-a-side pitches and onsite facilities, improving pedestrian and cycle access, providing essential vehicular access and sessional car parking on the nearby Park & Ride site.

The council will carry out the necessary works to deliver the pitches on the site.
