SNOW has fallen in the Yorkshire Dales and Craven area of North Yorkshire overnight in the wake of Storm Caroline, and could be on its way to York this weekend.

Today, forecasters expect it to be a crisp start to the day in York, with brisk northwesterly winds.

They say whilst a largely sunny day will follow, it will remain very cold, especially in the wind. Temperatures will peak at 2C, with lows of -1C.

Meanwhile, flood warnings are in place for the North Sea coast from Whitby to Filey and at Bridlington for the high tides over the next few days.

Tomorrow is expected to be another fine, but very cold day, and should remain dry and largely sunny throughout, with temperatures between 2C and -2C.

However, forecasters predict it will be a cold, frosty, cloudy start on Sunday, with the risk of snow. The Met Office has issued a yellow warning of snow for Sunday, between 4am and 11.55pm. Temperatures will peak at 1C and drop to -1C.

Forecasters say there will be showers overnight into Monday, with snow increasingly turning to rain.
