YOU can find out more about a York community-led flood management scheme at a free talk at City Screen York tomorrow at 7.30pm.

Reconnecting with our Rivers will be the theme from Jonathan Dent, Nature Reserve manager, St Nick’s who will speak about the project for the York Becks catchment which includes Tang Hall and Osbaldwick Beck.

The becks are a tributary of the River Foss and nine per cent of the total flow in the Foss at the time of the Boxing Day 2015 floods was from the becks.

Working with members of the local community and wider stakeholders St Nicks is currently undergoing a monitoring and improvement project on the becks and the green space around them.

The monitoring aspect is well under way and the the results of this will provide the data to inform practical Natural Flood Management works to take place in 2018.

To ensure the project sustainability a big focus is on working with the local community around the becks with the aim of providing them with the knowledge and skills to continue to monitor and improve the catchment management after the funder element of the project is complete.
