SELBY MP Nigel Adams was on target when he claimed a shock win over legendary darts player Phil ‘The Power’ Taylor.

He has also won a place in a charity darts finals at Alexandra Palace during the PDC World Darts Championships on December 21, and pledged his prize money to the Selby Hands of Hope charity.

The heats for the annual Parliamentary charity darts competition were held in the Commons last week and as he came in the top four, Mr Adams will battle it out in front of a televised capacity crowd at the London venue.

As part of the challenge, Mr Adams took on the 16-time world champion, Phil Taylor in a nine-dart challenge and beat him.

He said: "I’m not sure who was more shocked, Phil Taylor or me.

"I know it was only nine darts but he must have been distracted by something. Anyway, a win’s a win and it doesn’t get much better than that."
