AMERICAN folk singer, political songwriter and feminist icon Peggy Seeger, now 82, is touring with family members Neill MacColl and Calum MacColl on a 20-date itinerary of gigs and literary festivals rearranged from May and June.

In a statement at the time, Peggy said: "I’m so disappointed to have to postpone the tour but I’ve been advised to rest for a couple of months. As you may know, I’m not very good at taking advice but I think it’s for the best."

Advice taken and with Peggy now back to full fitness, the Seeger/MacColl shows are back on track. Originally booked by York promoters Please Please You and the Black Swan Folk Club for June 7, tonight's gig at The Crescent in York now better coincides with the October publication of Peggy's autobiography, First Time Ever: A Memoir, by Faber & Faber and accompanying double CD, First Time Ever: Songs From A Memoir.

Tonight's 8pm concert features Peggy and the MaColls performing her and late husband's Ewan MacColl’s most treasured songs from a career spanning more than 60 years, interspersed with readings from her memoir and whip-smart banter.

Peggy has always had the ability to take an audience from laughter to tears and back again in the space of a few songs; her memoir achieves the same in only a few paragraphs. Put the two together and a memorable night is ensured.

Tickets for an evening with the Seeger MacColl Family are available at pleasepleaseyou.com or on the door from 7.30pm.
