A NEW series of Marvel prints hand-signed by comic legend, Stan Lee, have been revealed at a York gallery.

The latest instalment of the Superheroes collection has been released to coincide with the lead up to Stan Lee’s 95th birthday.

Created in collaboration with Marvel’s fine art publisher, Choice Fine Art, the works were unveiled at Castle Fine Art in The Coppergate Centre at midday yesterday.

They capture a selection of recognisable Marvel comic book covers dating from the 1990s to the present day, including much-loved characters Captain America, The Incredible Hulk, The Invincible Iron Man and The Amazing Spider-Man – all of which were created during Stan Lee’s reign at Marvel.

Expected to sell out in record time, each piece of artwork is individually hand-signed by Stan Lee, who is credited with introducing complex characters with both light and dark qualities to the industry.

This type of characterisation had rarely been seen in comics before, contributing to Marvel’s widespread success as one of the most popular brands in the world today.

Felicity Whittingham, gallery manager for Castle Fine Art, York, said: “Once again we have seen an increase in comic book sales in the last year, so it’s no surprise that our Marvel prints also continue to grow in popularity.

“It is a privilege to unveil this new collection in our gallery and there is no better way to celebrate Stan Lee himself in the lead up to his 95th birthday.

“We would invite fans and collectors keen to get their hands on a piece of comic history to visit the gallery sooner rather than later, as we’re expecting these prints to be very popular.”

The six signed limited edition prints, which are produced in a boxed canvas format, cost £1,950.00 each.
