FESTIVE artists have sprinkled some modern Christmas sparkle onto a traditional decoration.

Crafty York residents created a wreath with recycled materials as part of a challenge set by St Nicks Eco-Crafters Club.

Judging was carried out yesterday by the group’s chief officer Tom Waring and Anne Rylatt took home the top prize after she produced a “little corkers choir wreath” from upcycled materials which can also be turned into tree decorations.

All entries will now be acknowledged on the charity’s website and go on display at the Centre for sale in the club’s little shop.

Crafts sales help cover costs, which recently received a welcome boost in the form of a grant from the Hungate Community Fund, delivered by the Two Ridings Community Foundation. The club started out several years ago as a social opportunity for women over 55 and has gone from strength to strength.
