YORK’S 100 best performing businesses have been collated and analysed in a first of its kind report - published today in The Press.

A new algorithm devised by York St John University’s Business School has produced a comprehensive list of the Top 100 business in the city, which The Press is delighted to share with you today.

Produced in partnership with York Business School and Make it York, the Top 100 showcases the diverse range of businesses, headquartered in York.

Nigel Burton, editor of The Press, said: “Today we take the wraps off the York Top 100, a list of the Minster city’s biggest and best businesses.

“It has been a privilege for The Press to work on this project with York Business School and Make It York, showcasing the contribution companies large and small are making to the city’s economy.”

When York Business School began working on the development of the list, it met with various stakeholders to produce an exact methodology for compiling the Top 100, and has applied this agreed methodology rigorously.

Steve Brown, managing director of Make it York, said: “One of the most challenging responsibilities for Make It York is to provide an ongoing ‘health-check’ of the key businesses and sectors in and around the city.

“But understanding which are the most significant companies in York is not as easy as it should be.

“So that is why, in conjunction with York St John University and The Press, we set out to try and create a much more definitive list of the biggest and most significant companies in the area - an annual snapshot of the commercial and industrial scene.”

The York Top 100 was officially launched this morning with an event at York Business School, as part of the York Business Week programme of events.
