YORK Minster has unveiled details of a series of special services, concerts and events it will stage during the run-up to Christmas.
An Advent Wreath, one of the largest in the country and created by volunteer flower arrangers, will be lifted into place below the Central Tower on Thursday November 30.
The season will then officially start on Sunday December 3 with the Advent Procession - a candlelit service of music, readings and prayers.
At 7.30pm on Friday December 8, there will be Sankta Lucia – Festival of Light, a traditional candlelit Swedish service for all the family, followed by Handel’s Messiah, the popular and celebrated oratorio, performed by the Minster choir at 7pm on Saturday, December 9.
The choir’s Christmas Carol Concerts will take place at 7pm on Thursday December 14 and again the following evening, with special guest readers.
